Kneeling Will Be Required

All this talk about kneeling in protest, hating on the NFL, the NBA, Tim Tebow, and Donald Trump. I say, “Get used to the kneeling.” It will be required of me and you one day. Lord, come quickly.

By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’ Isaiah 45:23

The truth of the matter, the passage is saying that God is the only one who can save His people, as opposed to the idols that are worshiped by the nations. God is God and there is no other. Those who turn from their idols will be saved. Those who do not will be ashamed. The bottom line is that, before God, every knee shall bow and every tongue swear allegiance to God.

9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

With Christian humility we should not consider ourselves better than others. Rather, we should look out for the interests of others above our own. Paul uses Christ as the ultimate example of humility that we should follow. It was Christ in the very form of God, who emptied Himself and took on the form of a servant. In doing so, He became obedient to God to the point of death.  He did this for the sake of His people. It is important to note the humiliation and exaltation of Christ. Christ first humbles Himself and then submits Himself in complete obedience to the Father. Afterwards, the Father highly exalts Him above all things. Paul quotes Isaiah 45:23 to say that at the feet of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.

One day WE WILL ALL kneel. Many will do so gladly and willingly. Those who have hardened their hearts to the call of the gospel will do so with great fear and trembling. Keep spreading the gospel!

Let’s reach out to those that have something they feel oppressed by, and feel the need to protest because of it.  Let’s humble ourselves and show them the love of Christ.

Cool Your Jets

You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. Psalm 89:9

This past month has been a whirlwind of events leading up to Noah and Laurlyn’s wedding ceremony. We drove 16 hours to Odessa, stayed for three days, and drove back. We had a wonderful time getting to know Laurlyn’s family. Then West Texas came to Alabama, and we had more fun times getting to know the Wash family. The wedding was beautiful, and fun, and Christ-centered. Then off they went on their honeymoon, and to live 600 miles from this mom.

I’ve been praying all day about Hurricane Irma that’s trying to come ashore in Florida. Why; you ask? My baby boy and his new bride are there, at Disney, and their new apartment is in downtown Orlando.

As I was praying earlier, a phrase came to me, “cool your jets”.  I don’t know if The Lord was telling me to settle down, or if he was speaking to Irma. I’m claiming that He’s telling Irma to calm down.  He could very well be talking to me; I thought the worst thing in the world was for my son to move to Orlando. I knew he would never live here, where he grew up, but I just didn’t imagine it would be so far away. God could be telling me, “There are worse things.” (I still like to think He’s talking to Irma.)

And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39

My prayer is that He will dissolve Hurricane Irma before she gets to any land masses, but especially the state of Florida. And even if He doesn’t, it is well. Please join me in prayer for the people of the city of Houston, and for the people in the path of Irma. I serve a mighty God, and I believe He can do what He’s done before. And I know He does things on purpose. And I know He loves His people. And I know He takes care of them.

He WILL take care of my kids. They are His people.

He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
 Psalm 107:29
